FAQ This page discusses some frequently asked questions that PASCC members receive. If you have any additional questions, feel free to reach out to us via the 'Contact Us' form below! 1 How do I join PASCC? To let us know that you are interested in joining PASCC, head over to our 'Get Involved' page. This page gives you a quick overview of the type of members we are looking for, time commitment, and other essential PASCC values. It then provides a quick form that prospective members can fill out to show their interest in joining! This page also discusses how adults interested in helping our cause can do to support and reach out to us! 2 I don't know much about climate issues, can I still join PASCC? No prior experience is needed! Everybody is welcome to join PASCC, and anyone interested in joining will attend a quick training that discusses the prominent climate issues in the area that we are trying to tackle here at PASCC. This helps ensure all of our members are on the same page and have a general baseline of knowledge. 3 What committee am I going to join? That is entirely up to you! There are multiple committees in PASCC, and once you decide which one you are most interested in, you can rank your choices. There is no guarantee, but you are likely to be placed into your first choice. 4 What is the time commitment? The time commitment varies between committees, but it will roughly be about 1-2+ hours per week for everyone. This includes a weekly 1 hour meeting, as well as the work you will do outside of gatherings. If you miss a meeting or are not able to get as much work done as usual, you can make up for it by doing some extra work later. Keep in mind that PASCC is run by teenagers, meaning that we understand what it's like to be super busy. However, you should still try to do as much as you can, and plan ahead based on your schedule. 5 What is an example of PASCC work? PASCC students have organized protests, spoken at city council meetings, lobbied city council members, and engaged with other facets of climate advocacy in Palo Alto. We mainly advocate for electrification, but we are open to all forms of climate action! 6 Do I need to live in Palo Alto to join? You don't! As long as you can demonstrate a strong connection to Palo Alto (whether you go to school, know a lot about it, or otherwise) and have an interest in climate justice, we'd love to have you on our team!

Projects Our projects team partners with local organizations and our city to create a positive, intersectional impact on our community. Many of us weave our interests, both directly and indirectly connected to sustainability, to choose the impact we want to make on our community. All of our projects aim to accelerate climate action in a conscientious, just, and strategic way that helps our city meet its climate goals. Apply for a Project Switch to Electric Since the beginning, we've been partners with 350 SV Palo Alto on their Switch to Electric Campaign. This campaign aims to partner with local organizations and city staff/council to electrify Palo Alto. We help them plan events, supply volunteers, and coordinate with our council and staff allies. Youth Climate Advisory Board Since the Spring of 2023, this project team has been researching and planning for a municipally supported Youth Climate Advisory Board. The mission behind this project is to institutionalize the voice of the youth in our city's sustainability policy development. Correcting Injustice in Palo Alto Policy After the National Day of Service in September, 2022, our projects team consulted with local environmental justice organizations and YCS to form this model for supporting environmental justice locally. This project aims to identify policies in Palo Alto that currently have unintented consequences on other cities and explore avenues to mitigate these side effects. Frontline Communities Report The Frontline Communities Report is a collaboration project between 350 SV Palo Alto and the Palo Alto Human Relations Commission. Through this project, we aim to understand how climate change is already impacting frontline communities––populations already experiencing the negative impacts of climate change––in order to identify gaps in current programs and develop solutions to address them. We're currently planning partnerships with the Palo Alto Utilities and Sustainability Department to begin listening sessions for community members who may typically be left unheard. Youth Climate Education Each year, we partner with school-support organizations––such as the PTA––and Kat Kid Adventure to run a wide range of art projects, eco challenges, after school workshops, and education lessons for locally based elementary and middle school students. PAUSD Sustainability in Education, Advocacy & Design In 2022, three of our members worked through Gunn's Advanced Authentic Research Class to convince the school district to purchase electric buses. In 2023, we're expanding this initiative with support from a special projects staff members of Palo Alto's Sustainability Department to explore other avenues to build a more sustainable school district and foster climate literacy in students.
